What do I think of the Apple Watch Series 1?
Apple first released the first Apple Watch Series 1 in 2015 and was then replaced by the Apple Watch Series 2 not long after. When it was released, it did come at a price. You are now able to get them at a much lower price on websites like ours.
The question is, should you buy one? We have only recently been able to test these watches properly because of the recent pandemic, and now we have a more accurate opinion about the Apple Watch Series 1. In today’s blog, I am going to break down what I think of the Apple Watch Series 1.
How does it look?
Before the Apple Watch Series 1 was released, Apple mainly focussed on the design of the watch rather than its functionality. Just by looking at the aluminium casing, you can tell that this watch is light on the wrist. It also comes in a variation of different colours which are Space Grey, Rose Gold, Gold and Silver. You can customize your Apple Watch strap to what suits you best and for any occasion.
How good is the display?
The Apple Watch Series 1 has an Ion-X glass which sits above its bright and colourful OLED. Unlike other watches, they use a more pixelated LCD which isn’t as slick as the OLED display. This is the perfect display for Smartwatch because it uses less battery by only turning on pixels that are needed. This is not what you get on LCDs.
What is the Battery Life?
The Apple Watch Series 1 has 18 hours of battery life. However, the battery life can drop if you are using the watch for non-stop calls. This also happens when you do a lot of exercises, heart rate monitor or listening to music. You can boost the battery life if you only check the time every so often to about 48 hours. Charging the battery also doesn’t take that much time. It takes about 2 hours to be charged entirely.
The 205mAh battery is non-removable and does have a smaller battery than some other Smartwatches, but this is understandable.
The charging
Instead of using a standard charging system for the Apple Watch Series 1, Apple has decided to use the MagSafe Charging system. This is the same charging system that you find on the MacBooks. It is combined with a MagSafe magnet and an inductive charger for a wire-free solution. This can become useful when you find yourself in low light situations.
My final opinion
When it comes to smartwatches, it is honestly just like any other phone review that I do. You have to decide if it is right for you. If you don’t want to spend the money on the more expensive Apple Watches that are currently out, then this is the watch for you. Since this Apple Watch has been released, its functionality has improved due to better-developed apps. If you want a basic Smartwatch that does the essential functions, this is the Smartwatch for you.
