On the 3rd of November, 2017 iPhone X was released by Apple Inc. It was seen as a smartphone which was trying to show Apples view on the future of smartphones. The phone comes with a lot of new features which have never been tried before, however, has been met with mixed feelings primarily due to notch at the top of the screen which houses the sensor. The face authentication security feature
The traditional fingerprint scanner is eliminated in the iPhone X and replaced by a face recognition technology for unlocking of the phone. The feature relies on the unique facial characteristics to unlock the phone and cannot be fooled by photographs of yourself. It will recognise your face even when wearing spectacles, a hat or contact lenses and will continue to update the initial picture to identify you as you age or change facial hairstyles, etc.
Display
The display of the phone also utilizes an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology, which is being used for the very first time for iPhones. The OLED panel as well gives relatively better contrast with deeper blacks and images which are more colorful. It is equipped with a 5.8-inch screen having no bezels except for the notch at the top of the screen which houses the camera and other sensors. The screens edge to edge layout leaves no space for the home button; however, swiping from the bottom reveals the home screen.
Camera
The rear side of the phone is equipped with two 12 megapixels\’ cameras with the primary camera stabilized for taking a clear picture by an f/1.8 aperture. The camera is excellent for taking clear and saturated pictures both in low light and well-lit conditions. The front camera is a 7-megapixel camera alongside a dot projector which is useful in the creation of a 3D map of the facial characteristic which is used as the face ID recognition technology for unlocking the phone.
Battery
The iPhone x is equipped with an internal 2716 mAh battery which can go up to 11 hours if the phone is being used and about 20 hours when on standby. The phone supports wireless charging feature; however, it is a relatively slow method of charging, and there are limitations on the thickness which can be used efficiently with the wireless charging application.
Hardware and software
The phone runs on the A11 Bionic chip which makes its responses to be very fast to commands. It has a 3GB RAM, and an enhance user experience navigating the iOS 11 which the phone uses. The speaker\’s audio clarity is as well top-notch quality sound both when using wireless headphones or phone speakers. Considering there is no home button, there are changes in which the iOS operates compared to their predecessors. When accessing the homepage, the user will be required to swipe from the bottom of the screen, the other functions which require the home button have as well been remapped and the phones need the user to get used to it for ease of use.
