How We Refurbish Every Phone at UsedMobiles4U
Buying a refurbished phone should never feel uncertain. At UsedMobiles4U, every device is professionally tested, cleaned, graded and prepared for resale in the UK before it reaches a customer.

What “Refurbished” Means at UsedMobiles4U
A used phone is simply a pre-owned device.
A refurbished phone is a pre-owned device that has been professionally inspected, tested and approved for resale after passing defined quality checks.

Our Phone Testing Process
Every refurbished phone sold by UsedMobiles4U undergoes professional diagnostics and inspection. Our testing approach is comparable to diagnostic tools widely used within the refurbishment industry (for example Phonecheck).
1. IMEI and device status checks
Before testing begins, we verify device identity and status to ensure it is suitable for resale. For additional context on UK device history checks see CheckMEND.
2. Full hardware diagnostics
We test the key components that affect everyday phone performance:
- Touchscreen responsiveness and display quality
- Front and rear cameras
- Speakers and microphone
- Physical buttons and switches
- Biometric features (Face ID / Touch ID)
- Sensors including proximity and motion sensors
- Charging port and battery performance
- Connectivity features including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
3. Battery health verification
Battery health is carefully checked as part of our refurbishment process. Our minimum battery standards are explained in the Battery Health section below.
4. Network and SIM testing
We verify that devices work correctly on UK networks. Phones sold by UsedMobiles4U are typically SIM-free and unlocked unless otherwise stated.
If you are researching network locking in the UK, see guidance from Ofcom.
5. Secure data wipe and factory reset
Before dispatch, devices are securely wiped and factory reset to remove previous user data. Phones are prepared for a clean setup by the new owner.
For general UK data protection guidance see the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Battery Health Standards
Battery condition is one of the most important factors when buying a refurbished phone. A weak battery can significantly reduce the usefulness of a device.
At UsedMobiles4U, battery health is tested as part of our refurbishment process.
- Minimum standard: devices typically meet or exceed 85% battery health
- If a battery does not meet our standard, it may be replaced before sale
- Battery standards apply regardless of cosmetic grade
This helps ensure reliable daily use compared to many privately sold used phones.
Cosmetic Grading (Condition)
Refurbished phones are graded based on their cosmetic appearance. All grades are fully tested for functionality regardless of visual condition. Typical grades describe the level of visible wear such as small marks or scuffs.
For a full explanation of our grading system see: Refurbished iPhone Grades Explained
What We Don’t Sell
To maintain quality standards and customer trust, some devices are rejected during the refurbishment process.
- Phones that fail diagnostics or have unresolved faults
- Devices that cannot be securely wiped
- Phones that fail our battery health standards
- Devices that do not match their expected cosmetic condition

- 18 Month Warranty covering hardware faults (12 months cover on the battery, further cover can be purchased at the checkout)
- 30-day returns if you change your mind
